Bio Notes: John Ross Cheyne was born on 15 November 1913. His relationship, if any, to George Cheyne (died 1888) and James Adam Cheyne (died 1886) is unknown. He was articled to George Bennett Mitchell & Son from September 1929 to September 1934 and thereafter spent three years studying full-time on the diploma course at Aberdeen School of Architecture, briefly returning to the Mitchell office as assistant from July to September 1936. He obtained his diploma and passed the Professional Practice exam in June 1937 and was admit ARIBA on 6 December that year, his proposers being R Leslie Rollo, James Brown Nicol and John Gibb Marr. By that time he had taken up a post in the Aberdeen City Architect's Department, and was living at 17 St John's Road, Bucksburn.

By 1979 Cheyne was in Toronto and his address is given as C/o Ms Susan Jones. He returned to Aberdeen in the mid-1980s but by the mid-1990s was again resident in Toronto.
