He was probably trained by the Kendal architect Eli Cox whose daughter (Mary Agnes?) he married. Following Cox’s death at the relatively early age of forty-eight, he continued his father-in-law’s architectural and surveying practice at 22a Highgate, Kendal, and at Grange-over-Sands. Hutton was very much a local architect, most of his known works being concentrated in the areas round Kendal and South Lakeland. Member of the Surveyors Institute.
