Basic Biographical Details Name: | George McIntosh Keith | Designation: | | Born: | 31 October 1907 | Died: | 12 November 1973 | Bio Notes: | George McIntosh Keith was born on 31 October 1907, the son of George McIntosh Keith, mechanical engineer and his wife Jane Barron. He studied at Aberdeen School of Architecture. From 1922 to 1924 he studied as a full-time pupil at the School of Architecture in Aberdeen. He was articled to Messrs Gall & Hay in Aberdeen during the subsequent three years and in 1927 was awarded his diploma. He had a post as assistant in the City Architect's Department in Aberdeen during the years 1927-31. In the latter year he moved to a post as architect with the County Architect's office in Middlesex. During his years in the south he attended the Regent Street Polytechnic and gained a certificate in Town Planning. In July 1941 he passed the Part I final exam, in December that year the Part II final exam and he completed his thesis in December 1945. He was admitted ARIBA on 12 March 1946, proposed by C D Andrews, H W Burchett and G L Desmond Hall. At the time of his being elected a member he was probably doing his National Service as the address of his witness was the HQ 51, Highland Devision, BAOR.
Keith was appointed City Architect of Aberdeen on the resignation of Alexander Buchanan Gardner in September 1954. He retired due to ill-health on 30 June 1971.
He died on 12 November 1973 at his home in Aberdeen.
