Bio Notes: A & J Scott were a firm of architectural decorators who practised in Glasgow from at least 1880 until the 1930s. Archibald Scott was born in about 1822. In the 1851 census he was living in Rutherglen. In 1861 he is described as a painter employing 12 men and 6 boys. His sons John, born about 1847, and James, born about 1852, joined him in his business.

Around 1870 Archibald and John are absent from Post Office directories, although James seems to have remained in Glasgow carrying on the firm. John returned to Glasgow in the later 1880s.

The firm was dissolved on 31 December 1937, although James Blair Scott continued to trade as sole partner under the original title.
