Bio Notes: Alexander Forbes Simpson was born on 22 September 1887, the son of John Simpson, cloth merchant and his wife Mary Ann Hynd. He spent one year studying at Aberdeen School of Art from 1903 and three years as a pupil with an unidentified architect. He would appear to have continued his studies with William Lee Clarke in London. Thereafter he was an assistant in several other architects'offices in London followed by one year with an unspecified structural engineer, concurrently studying at the South-Western Polytechnic's evening classes. In 1911 he was a boarder with a family in Islington. In 1912 he set up practice on his own account at 368 Strand but had to close it in 1914 for war service. He resumed practice in 1918 at 104 Victoria Street,moving later to 181 Wardour Street.

He was admitted LRIBA on 16 September 1941, his proposers being William Lee Clarke, Baxter Greig and Francis Lorne.

He would seem to have died in Kensington, London in 1955.
