Bio Notes: John Alexander Martin Boyd was born in 1896 or 1897, the son of John Boyd, carriage hirer, and his wife Jessie Fairlie Martin, and was brought up in Broughty Ferry. He worked in the area of Dundee before moving to Ayrshire. From 1929 he was chief assistant to Alexander Mair who at that time had recently severed his partnership with Thomas McGill Cassels. Boyd was an Associate of the Dundee Institute of Architects by 1930 or 1931. He was still practising from that address whilst retaining his membership of the Dundee Association in 1939 or 1940.

Boyd died in Ayr County Hospital on 8 Fenruary 1940 aged 47. His wife Margaret Kerr Lamond survived him.
