Bio Notes: ___Swan & J W B Maclaren practised principally in Kuala Lumpur. The firm was founded by Swan and his partner ___Lermit in 1887. Lermit withdrew in 1892 and was replaced by J W B MacLaren. They became the 'leading exponents of their profession' in Singapore, having offices there and in Bangkok and Penang as well as Kuala Lumpur. In 1895 Swan & MacLaren recruited Regent Alfred John Bidwell (1869-1920) who was an English architect in the Public Works Department in Kuala Lumpur to design their more architectural commssions. He remained there until at least 1907 when he was replaced by David McLeod Craik as architectural partner. Craik who had started in the office in 1902 remained there until at least 1930s with the exception of the war years. The other partners were H Robinson who lived at Singapore and H C Atkin-Berry who lived at Kuala Lumpur.
