Basic Biographical Details Name: | R Neish & Forsyth | Designation: | | Born: | September 1933 | Died: | February 1937 | Bio Notes: | Andrew Ross Forsyth was born on 13 May 1911 and was articled to Alexander Ross & Son of Inverness in July 1928, attending evening classes at Inverness Academy. He left Ross's office in October 1930 to study full-time at the School of Architecture, Robert Gordon's Colleges, Aberdeen, where he completed his studies in July 1933. In September of that year he commenced practice on his own account, in partnership with R Neish, of whom nothing is yet known. The practice of Neish & Forsyth was engaged in estate work, including entrance lodges, as well as workers' cottages, housing schemes, shops, private houses and council work. The firm appears to have suffered from the economic depression of the later 1930s, and although plans for at least one job are dated 1939, according to Forsyth's nomination papers the partnership was dissolved in February 1937. In that month Forsyth took an appointment as chief assistant to J W Manson & Son of Newcastle upon Tyne, a mainly industrial practice specialising in factories, garages, canteens, shops and housing. He left that office in October 1938 to work for A K Tasker & Austin Child in the same town, for whom he was engaged on schools, drill halls and factories. In September the following year he was appointed assistant to Gateshead Corporation, where he was responsible for 'A. R. P. work'. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | Forres, Morayshire, Scotland(?) | Business | | | |
