Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Sim Dow | Designation: | | Born: | 25 October 1904 | Died: | 27 February 1963 | Bio Notes: | John Sim Dow was born on 25 October 1904, the son of James McGregor Dow, wine and spirit merchant, and his wife Margaret Suim. He was articled to William Erskine Thomson of Perth in 1923. In 1926 he moved to Aberdeen to attend classes at Gray's School of Art, Robert Gordon's College. He passed the qualifying exam in July 1929 and was admitted ARIBA at the beginning of the following year, his proposers being James Brown Nicol, Robert Gordon Wilson Junior and John Alexander Ogg Allan. His nomination papers give a home address of 'Dunolly', Young Street, Craigie, Perth.
By 1950 Dow practised as John S Dow & Co and as John S Dow & Mills by the 1960s.
