Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Tennant & A W MacDonald | Designation: | | Born: | 1905 or 1906 | Died: | 1909(?) | Bio Notes: | William Tennant was born at Camelon, Stirlingshire in 1833 or 1834, the son of William Tennant, estate foreman and Margaret Kay. His initial training was probably in an estate office, as was the case with Robert Baldie who took him into partnership in or before 1879. He became sole partner on Baldie's death in February 1890.
In or about 1901 Tennant took Frederick Vincent Burke into partnership, but by 1905 Burke's alcoholism was causing serious difficulties and the partnership was dissolved. Tennant then seems to have formed a partnership with 'A W Macdonald' (probably Archibald W MacDonald, who had been born c. 1876 and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1892 to 1894), which lasted until Tennant's retirement at the age of seventy-five on 16 June 1909, an event probably precipitated by the Finance Act of that year having made his practice underemployed and unprofitable.
Tennant died of senile cardiac degeneration and congestion of the lungs at 55 Cambridge Drive, Kelvinside on 27 March 1915, aged eighty-one. He was unmarried, his sister Jane acting as housekeeper. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 219, Hope Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | 1905 or 1906 | After 1909 | |
