Basic Biographical Details Name: | George MacRitchie | Designation: | | Born: | 8 March 1880 | Died: | 15 July 1948 | Bio Notes: | George MacRitchie was born in Blairgowrie on 8 March 1880 and served his apprenticeship with L & J G Falconer of Blairgowrie from February 1899, studying 'under the Science and Art Department'. After completing his articles in mid-1903 he was sent to the Fort William branch office as assistant and later chief assistant to James G Falconer, working alongside Lake Falconer Junior who was two years younger. MacRitchie was put in charge of the office and outside work when James G Falconer was away, and like his employer acted as a quantity surveyor, being involved in the 'surveying and measuring' side of the business as well.
Both Lake Falconer Junior and MacRitchie were elected LRIBA on 24 June 1912, MacRitchie's proposers being Lake Falconer Senior, James G Falconer and George Malcolm (although none were members of the RIBA themselves). George Malcolm wrote of MacRitchie: 'In private life Mr MacRitchie is much esteemed … He has taken an acceptable share in the literary and social life of Fort William, and I regard him as a very estimable and promising young man.'
