Bio Notes: Charles Hamilton MacKeith was born on 23 May 1898 and was articled to Charles Turnbull Ewing of Crieff from 1913 until 1917, studying at Blackpool St Anne's Schools of Art and Technical College. He then served with the Royal Garrison Artillery in the First World War, after which he took up a post as chief assistant with Albert Winstanley in St Anne's-on-Sea followed by a spell with James (?) Lewis of Blackpool and in 1928 became assistant architect to the Blackpool Tower and Winter Gardens Company. In 1932 he became a junior partner with J C Derham's practice, also in Blackpool and when Derham died in 1936 he became architect to Blackpool Tower Winter Gardens Company and principal of the practice which appears to have retained the name Derham MacKeith & Partners. MacKeith was elected FRIBA on 23 June 1946, his proposers being Sir Charles Reilly, H T Jackson and Francis L Lumb.
