Bio Notes: William George Rowntree Bodie was born on 4 December 1904, the son of John Mann Bodie, printer, and his wife Elizabeth Dururand. He was articled to George Bennett Mitchell in September 1922. At the same time he commenced his studies at the Aberdeen School of Architecture, Robert Gordon's College, receiving his Diploma in 1927, whereupon he was awarded the Byrne Scholarship of £50 which enabled him to study for a further year to gain a Post-Diploma. The path of his career after the completion of his apprenticeship on 31 August 1927 has yet to be established, but he passed the qualifying exam in July 1928 and was admitted ARIBA later that year, his proposers being Robert Gordon Wilson Junior, John Alexander Ogg Allan, and John Ross McMillan. At that time he was living at 32 Clifton Road, Aberdeen. At some point he became a qualified town planner as well.

By 1939-40 he appears to have moved to Edinburgh. By 1950-51 he had returned to live and work in Aberdeen, his address still being 32 Clifton Road. Between the about 1953 and 19690 he worked for Glenrothes New Town Devlopment Corporation rising to become Principal Architect and Planning Officer and retired from this post in 1969. He returned to Edinburgh and retired fully (from private practice?) in 1972. He published a various books on the history of Glenrothes. He was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

He died on 19 September 1981 at The Kennels, Drum Castle, Drumoak, Kincardineshire, leaving his second wife, Margaret Helen Garden, with whom he had been living in Edinburgh. His first wife was Christian Innes.
