Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Adam | Designation: | | Born: | 22 December 1899 | Died: | 21 February 1985 | Bio Notes: | William Adam was born on 22 December 1899, the son of John Adam, insurance agent, and his wife Janet Grasson. He was articled to James Strang of Falkirk from 1914 to 1919, attending classes at the Falkirk Science & Art School. He remained with Strang as assistant after completing his apprenticeship, concurrently studying the Senior Certificate Course at the Glasgow School of Architecture. In 1924 he left Strang to become Chief Assistant Architect Engineer to Falkirk Town Council. He passed the RIBA final examination in Edinburgh in 1931. Towards the end of that year he was admitted ARIBA, his proposers being Thomas Harold Hughes, Alexander Nisbet Malcolm and William James Smith. He remained in Falkirk until 1944 when he took the post of Lanarkshire Assistant County Housing Architect and Engineer.
Adam died at the Royal Infirmary in Falkirk aged 85 on 21 February 1985.
