Bio Notes: William Dalton Ironside was born about 1866, the son of Andrew Jamieson Ironside, civil engineer and his wife Tamar Proud. He may have been involved in his father's practice which was run by Thomas Duncan after the older Ironside's death in 1887. In 1891 Duncan merged the practice with that of George James Walker. William Dalton Ironside joined the Walker & Duncan practice in Aberdeen from the early 1890s, possibly after Duncan's early death in 1892. He may have been the father of the younger William Dalton Ironside, born 1906, who studied at Robert Gordon's Technical College, trained in the office of James Brown Nicol, and was admitted ARIBA in late 1930.

William Dalton Ironside senior died aged 49 from phthsis on 12 June 1915. He was survived by his wife, Emma Yates. His death was registered by Ironside's sister, Emily Ogilvie.
