Basic Biographical Details Name: | John James Smith | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | 1915 | Bio Notes: | John James Smith was articled to Charles Smith of Reading (who may or may not have been a relative) from 1863 to 1868, remaining a further ten months as assistant. He subsequently worked for four-and-a-half years as assistant to Thomas Smith Lansdown of Swindon. He commenced independent practice there in 1873 and was admitted ARIBA on 20 March 1882, his proposers being Smith, John Pollard Seddon and Benjamin Ferrey. He was architect to the Great North of Scotland Railway by 1898, leaving the post in 1900 when he was succeeded by James Lowson. By 1914 he had moved to Bideford, Devon.
