Bio Notes: David Thomson was born on 6 April 1878 and articled to Thomas Saunders Robertson in Dundee from 1894 to 1898, remaining with him as assistant until 1900. During that time he attended the classes at Dundee Technical Institute and YMCA Rooms. Robertson's practice being in decline by 1900 he left to join the office of the city architect William Alexander, initially as a junior assistant rising to become assisitant in 1902, where he remained until Alexander's death in 1904. He then found a place with Thomas Martin Cappon and remained with him until 1911 when he was fortunate in being engaged by the Inland Revenue Valuation Department to advise it under the Finance Act of 1909. He was admitted LRIBA on 24 June 1912, proposed by William Fleming Wilkie as President of the Dundee Institute of Architects; at that time he was based at 31 Albert Square.
