Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Hector Mackenzie | Designation: | | Born: | 9 January 1877 | Died: | 1957 | Bio Notes: | William Hector Mackenzie was born on 9 January 1877 and was articled to John Pond Macdonald of Inverness in 1892, remaining as an assistant until 1898. In the latter year he obtained a position as assistant in the office of Thomas Lennox Watson in Glasgow, enabling him to attend classes at Glasgow School of Art. After two years he left Scotland and moved to Plymouth, where he became chief assistant in the office of the Borough Engineer, J Paton, and a year later moved again, this time to Bournemouth to work as assistant to the Borough Architect, Engineer and Surveyor Frederick William Lacey. He was promoted to senior assistant and remained in the same office with Lacey's successor F P Dolamore after Lacey's death in 1916.
Mackenzie commenced practice on his own account in Bournemouth in 1926, his work principally involving domestic and leisure buildings and churches in and around the town. He worked in partnership with ___Phillips. He was admitted LRIBA on 4 December 1933, and was swiftly elevated to Fellow early the following year, his proposers on both occasions being Albert Edward Shervey, H R Collins and Sydney Joseph Tatchell. At that time his home and office was at 'Clive', 20 Grove Road, Bournemouth.
