Bio Notes: John Campbell was born in 1857 and served his apprenticeship with John Gordon of Glasgow from 1872, remaining with him for a further three-and-a-half years as draughtsman and studying at Glasgow School of Art. Around 1883 he emigrated to New Zealand where he obtained a post in the Public Works Department in Wellington, being promoted to Chief Colonial Architect in c.1895. He was admitted FRIBA on 6 March 1905, his proposers being Joseph Clarkson Maddison, Alfred Atkin and Frederick de Jersey Clere, all of New Zealand.

He died on 4 August 1942.
