Bio Notes: William Wardlaw Sclanders was born in 1872 and trained as a law clerk from 1888 to 1892, but in the latter year he changed career and was articled to Robert Black of Inverness. Thereafter he was assistant to Ross & Macbeth from 1898 until 1905 when he was appointed Master of Works to Inverness Town Council, overseeing the new municipal buildings there. After two years he resigned to return to Ross & Macbeth's office but in the following year, 1908, he emigrated to China as assistant in H M Office of Works. He was admitted LRIBA in the mass intake of 20 July 1911 his proposers being Ross, Archibald Bulloch of the Office of Works and William Macdonnell Mitchell Dowdall of Shanghai.

Sclanders died in retirement on 5 February 1945.
