Bio Notes: John Milne was born on 5 November 1843 at 9 North College Street, Elgin, the son of James Milne, blacksmith and his wife Catherine Wilson. He is described as architect and burgh surveyor, assessor and sanitary inspector. He opened business in Forres in 1870 and in 1881 he was living at 274 High Street, Forres with his older sister who was unmarried and acted as housekeeper and his mother who was a widow by then. He moved his business to Elgin in 1886. He also worked in Liverpool. He died on 10 July 1912 and is buried in the churchyard of Elgin Cathedral (plot 517).
