Bio Notes: James Inglis McDerment was born in Ayr on 22 July 1828, the son of James McDerment, land surveyor (died c.1854) and Janet Bryan (died about 1867). Nothing is known of his training but he is described as a civil engineer. He married Jane McEwen on 17 July 1857. He practised as an architect in Ayr from at least 1868, at which time his address was 47 Newmarket Street. By 1883 he had moved his office to 39 Sandgate where he was in practice with his sons. He died on 27 August 1883. No further details of him are known.
