Basic Biographical Details Name: | Thomas McCrae | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | c. 1968 | Bio Notes: | Thomas McCrae (mistakenly referred to in some sources as Macrae) practised as an architect on his own account in Edinburgh from c.1920. Nothing is known of his training, but he appears to be the son of Thomas McCrae of 4 Comely Bank Terrace, Edinburgh, as in his first entry in the Post Office Directories (1914-1915) he is referred to as Thomas McCrae Junior, living at 9 South East Circus Place. He was living at 6 North East Circus Place from at least 1922. By 1934 he had been elected FRIAS and had an office at 29 Hanover Street. He moved office sometime about 193 to 58 Queen Street. In at least 1949 he was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He moved house to 4 St Vincent Street c.1951 or 1952, and appears to have retired from practice in 1959. He seems to have died in or around 1968. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 9, South East Circus Place, Edinburgh, Scotland | Private | Before 1914 | c. 1921 | | | 6, North East Circus Place, Edinburgh, Scotland | Private/business | c. 1922 | c. 1952 | Both office and house until c1931 but houses only thereafter | | 1, Circus Place, Edinburgh, Scotland | Business | 1924 * | | 1924 plans signed with this address; the 1 is possibly a mis-read for 6 or 9 | | 29, Hanover Street, Edinburgh, Scotland | Business | c. 1931 | 1937 | | | 58, Queen Street, Edinburgh, Scotland | Business | c. 1937 | After 1958 | | | 4, St Vincent Street, Edinburgh, Scotland | Private | c. 1952 | c. 1968 | |
