He was living in Edinburgh by 1871. By c.1879 he was working as assistant to MacGibbon & Ross. He seemed to design a number of buildings in Peebles in the 1880s and early 1890s including the Co-op building on the corner of Greenside and the Eddlestone Water bridge and a baptist church on Greenside (according to local press). He is listed in the press as 'architect, Edinburgh'.
