Bio Notes: John Nichol was born c.1806 and appears to have settled in Carlisle in or about 1838 with an address at 35 English Street. Nothing is known of his background except that he was described as 'a very talented architect from Edinburgh' in the 'Carlisle Journal' of 21 November 1840 and that he was also a builder (1841 census). He had returned to Edinburgh by 1847.
