Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Patrick McCann | Designation: | | Born: | 1854 | Died: | December 1900 | Bio Notes: | John Patrick McCann was born in 1854 and articled to Ellis & Wilson of Aberdeen whilst attending classes at Aberdeen Art School, later Gray's School of Art. From 1872-74 he studied art at the South Kensington Schools, winning a bronze medal. He returned there to study architecture there from 1886-1891 and again was awarded several prizes. He returned to Aberdeen and obtained a teaching post in Gray's School of Art and after leaving he instuituted the School of Design on Union Row and subsequently conducted it on behalf of the Aberdeen School Board. He appears to have given up practice to pursue full-time teaching c.1891.
