Bio Notes: John Hall was the son of John Hall (1817-1892) who in turn was the brother of Robert Hall, a builder in Galashiels. John Hall junior 'graduated into architecture from practical building though he had no architectural training in the modern acceptance of the term'.

John Hall Junior became an architect sometime before 1888, the firm name being J & J Hall, and was architect to the Education Committee of Roxburgh from 1919, modernising many of the older schools in the county. The firm also continued in general practice, with an output of banks, factories, hospitals, public buildings, baths, theatres and domestic work.

John Hall died on 13 July 1933. The practice was continued by his son John Campbell Hall (born 1888), who had served his apprenticeship there from 1909 to 1914 or 1915 and had been taken into partnership on his return from war service in 1919.
