Bio Notes: Andrew Gordon Maitland was born in 1880, son of Tain architect Andrew Maitland II and his wife Elizabeth Chapman, and grandson of Andrew Maitland Senior who had founded the family practice. Andrew Gordon worked for the family firm, becoming partner with his uncle James Maitland sometime after his father's death in 1898. In 1922 the practice was taken over by the then chief assistant William Macdonald; James went into retirement and Andrew Gordon went to Edinburgh, where he was working for solicitors Morton, Smart, Macdonald, Prosser WS at 19 York Place at the time of his admission as LRIBA in early 1925. He fell into poor health after James's death in 1929 and went to Madeira on medical advice but died en route in 1930.
