He was a partner with his father from some time before 1863 until his father's death in 1872, the practice title being J & J Lamb. He is described in 1901 as 'Architect & Surveyor'. He became a Paisley Bailie in later life. He did not marry but lived with his sister Kathleen who was 'living on her own means' in 1901.
