He was an Associate of the Glasgow Institute of Architects and was practising in Stranraer between the 1930s and the 1950s. In the 1930s he designed a number of houses for the Burgh of Stranraer.
In the 1960s Goudie formed a partnership with George Richard Hill as Goudie & Hill which lasted probably until Goudie's death.
