Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Jeffrey | Designation: | | Born: | 1905 or 1906 | Died: | c. 1934 | Bio Notes: | John Jeffrey was born in 1905 or 1906 and entered the office of Dr Peter McGregor Chalmers in 1920. His surname suggests that like John Jeffrey Waddell he may have been a relative of Mrs Chalmers. He remained with the Peter Macgregor Chalmers practice after it was taken over by Jeffrey Waddell & Young in 1925. During this period he studied at the Glasgow School of Architecture at Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Technical College and was admitted ARIBA on 4 June 1928, proposed by John Watson, Hamilton Neil and James Lochhead, who described him as 'a keen and industrious student'. After some further experience in as senior assistant with Hamilton Neil from late 1925, as assistant to James Lochhead from 1927 and to Burnet Son & Dick in 1928, he joined the City Engineer's staff in Dundee c.1930 where he worked under James McLellan Brown on the municipal offices and City Square.
