Bio Notes: Charles Leadbetter was born at Innerleithen, the son of Alexander Leadbetter and his wife Margaret Brunton and baptised on 10 May 1813. Nothing is known of his training but c.1861 he was in partnership with James W Smith. Their office was then at 38 Hanover Street in Edinburgh.

Leadbetter died on 26 February 1888, aged 74. His relationship, if any, to Thomas Leadbetter is unknown, but the Directories show that in the mid-1880s the practices were quite separate, Charles being based at 7 St Andrew's Place and Thomas at 122 George Street. In his final years Charles is shown at his house in Mayfield Road only, indicating that the practice was being wound down.
