Basic Biographical Details Name: | David Matheson Cuthbert | Designation: | | Born: | 1880 | Died: | 1927 | Bio Notes: | David Matheson Cuthbert was born in 1880 and articled to George Penrose Kennedy Young of Perth from 1896, remaining as junior assistant for a short time in 1900 before being appointed assistant in the Survey Department of Condie, Mackenzie and Co of Perth under Alexander Buttar. He left in 1901 to move to Calcutta as assistant to J S Macdonald, architect and surveyor, (RIBA obituary claims that he worked for Mackintosh Burn & Co in Calcutta as assistant architect and surveyor) and spent four years there before returning to Perth in 1905 and resuming his position as Buttar's assistant.
In 1912 he took up an appointment in the Lands Valuation Department of the Inland Revenue in Perth and remained there until February 1915 when he joined the Highland Fife Heavy Battery, serving in France from 1918 to 1919. He was elected LRIBA in the mass intake of 20 July 1911, proposed by William Fleming Wilkie and the Dundee Institute of Architects.
