Basic Biographical Details Name: | Andrew Rennie Crawford & Veitch | Designation: | | Born: | Before 1903 | Died: | After 1911 | Bio Notes: | Andrew Rennie Crawford was born on 16 April 1874 at 11 Callender Place, Govanhill, the son of Robert Nicholson Crawford and his wife Jeannie Rennie. He served his apprenticeship with David Thomson of Glasgow from August 1889, attending the Glasgow School of Art and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College under Professors Rait, Rourdon and Gourlay and art masters Smith, Griffen, Dunlop and King. He commenced independent practice in Glasgow in 1896, seemingly initially in partnership with his father, but soon thereafter practising on his own in West Nile Street.
Around 1903 he took David Veitch into partnership, a branch office being opened at 50 Templehill, Troon. Veitch had been born at the School House, Port of Menteith on 13 June 1875, the son of Stephen Veitch, schoolmaster and his wife Elizabeth Whyte from Edinburgh. He appears to have been articled in Stirling: when he attended Glasgow School of Art in 1896-97 his address was 69 Wallace Street, Stirling. Veitch married Andrew Rennie Crawford's sister Janet at Dixon Hall, Cathcart Road, Govanhill on 22 December 1908.
A R Crawford & Veitch were architects to the Burgh of Cathcart, an appointment which ended when Cathcart became part of Glasgow in the boundary extensions of 1912. The practice appears to have closed thereafter: its business had mainly been tenements, the building of which had been brought to an abrupt close by the Finance Act of 1909. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 50, Templehill, Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland | Business | | | Branch office | | 101, West Nile Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | Before 1903 | After 1911 | |
