In 1855-58 as Brevet Colonel Moody was in charge of the RE Drawing Office in Northumberland Street. During his time there he was instructed to draw up plans for the restoration of Edinburgh Castle by the Secretary of State for War, Lord Panmure, later Earl of Dalhousie, the London architect Francis Dollman being brought in to help with the details and provide the perspectives. Lord Panmure showed these to the Queen and Prince Consort on 6 February 1857, but in May the Indian Mutiny broke out and the government of which Lord Panmure was a member resigned. Although Panmure wrote to his successor Lord de Grey that 'the Queen fully approved of the plans,' they were not proceeded with.
In October 1858 Colonel Moody was posted to what was to become British Columbia as Lieutenant-Governor and Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works because of the gold rush there. He took his family with him and retained both the latter title and that of Surveyor of the Mainland Colony of British Columbia until 1863. He returned home in 1864; was promoted Major General; and retired in 1886. He died in 1887. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | British Columbia, Canada | Business | 1858 | 1864 | | | 42, Northumberland Street, Edinburgh, Scotland | Business | Before 1858 | After 1859 | |
