Bio Notes: Gilbert Robert Blount was born in 1818 or 1819 into an old Roman Catholic family. He trained as a civil engineer with Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859), then worked in the office of Sydney Smirke (1799-1877). Blount practised in London, and became architect to Cardinal Wiseman. He was elected a Fellow of the RIBA on 30 November 1857, and died at Montagu Place on 13 November 1876, his former pupil and assistant Alfred Edward Purdie taking over his practice thereafter.

In his obituary in the RIBA Transactions he was described as a 'gentleman of very courteous manners'.
