Bio Notes: Very little is yet known about James Aitken. He was born about 1844 or 1845, the son of William Aitken, spirit merchant, and his wife Jean Toshack. He was in partnership with William Lambie Moffat from May 1873. In 1878 various advertisements appeared in the Scotsman for properties for which he was acting as agent, for example a shop in Fountainbridge advertised on 1 June 1878. He lived at 5 Leven Terrace, Edinburgh, but died intestate in Aberdour, Fife on 17 April 1880. He was survived by his wife Isabella Galloway.
