Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Short | Designation: | | Born: | c. 1867 | Died: | 1 December 1899 | Bio Notes: | John Short was born c. 1867, the son of David Short, builder and Jessie McCulloch. It is not known to which practice he was articled and he did not study at Glasgow School of Art: he may have been apprenticed to his father as a builder. By 1894 he had entered into partnership with Alexander Adam in Bath Street, Glasgow, specialising in tenement design, but this was dissolved by 1897, apparently as a result of Short's alcoholism.
Short died unmarried at 162 Cambridge Drive on 12 December 1899. He was intestate, suggesting that he died suddenly.
[NB: 'Buildings of Scotland' has this firm listed as John 'Smart' and also notes an Adam Short for the Partickhill tenements near Gardner Street which should presumably be Adam & Short.] | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 95, Bath Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | 1894 * | | | | 164, Bath Street, Glasgow, Scotland | Business | 1895 * | 1899 | | | 13, Windsor Terrace, Glasgow, Scotland | Private | Before 1896 | After 1899 | |
